| 02/22/03: Faribault, Minnesota — Crane Mishap Knocks Hole in Buckham Library | Dead Link | | See Cache Copy Text below | A 10-ton crane accidentally slid down a hill and into the Buckham Memorial Library in Faribault, Minnesota, February 17, knocking a hole in it. A Met-Con Construction crew was positioning the crane for roof work on the nearby community center when it suddenly slid down the hill toward the library's south wall, the Faribault Daily News reported February 19. “I'll never forget the sound,” said Director Renee Lowery. “It was the loudest bang I've ever heard.” The incident happened shortly after library staff arrived for work on Presidents Day. “Luckily, the library was closed to the public and none of the staff was in that section of the library,” Lowery said. “There were no injuries. And other than dust, there was no damage to library materials in that section of the library.” The adult nonfiction collection has been sectioned off and is unavailable to the public until the wall is repaired. The construction company's insurance will cover the damage. |
