| 12/11/02: Rochester, New York — Crane Accident Delays Bridge Construction | Cache Copy | A construction accident delayed work on the new O'Rorke Bridge on Tuesday afternoon. A Monroe County spokesperson said a crane used to move construction materials was being repositioned when it began to tip. No one was hurt as a result of the incident and the bridge was not damaged. County engineers are investigating the accident. |

| Cache Copy | A man laying sewer pipe in a new home development was electrocuted when a backhoe, operated by his father, hit a powerline overhead, the Yakima County sheriff's office said. William Anderson, 26, was pronounced dead Monday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Chuck Anderson, 63, the owner of Central Concrete and Utilities, was operating the backhoe while his son stabilized a section of pipe that was tethered by cable to the backhoe bucket, the sheriff's office said. The boom on the backhoe hit a powerline above it and the electrical current was transmitted to the younger Anderson. The state Department of Labor and Industries is investigating. This is the 32nd. AVOIDABLE incident reported to this site this year in which power lines were involved. There were 35 reported to this site in 2001. Again, all were avoidable. Just don't work cranes near energized power lines. |
