To the Editor of Marshalltown Times Republican

I am a crane operator in Omaha, Nebraska. Like many others in our craft nationwide I have an intense interest in the details of the July 20th crane accident in New Providence.

However, it is my belief that, after this tragedy occurred, your reporter, Bryan Schultz, should be commended by all members of your organization from the publisher on down for having the common sense and basic human decency to make his first priority that of helping the victims of this unfortunate incident.

Bryan you are a good man.

7/21/00: Wish, Indiana — Crane falls on House

The plan was for it to carry the tree away, but instead a crane got carried right into the house.

John Long hired professionals to remove a dead tree from his yard. But the crane operator miscalculated the size of the tree. The crane became top heavy and fell on the Long's house.

“It was a slow crunching sound. I thought it maybe a limb fell through the shed,” said neighbor John Durrer.

The tree and crane did extensive damage to the garage, kitchen and utility room.

The tree company is starting repairs on the house immediately.
