Crane Accident Photo

This is a picture of a Link-Belt lattice boom crane owned by a construction contractor out of Georgia. This accident took place in 1998 at Lancaster, PA on an Interstate highway rehabilitation project.

The crane was attempting to pull caissons out of the ground. The wrong wedge was used to attach the cable to the boom. The wedge used was for a Manitowoc crane. When the operator tried to pull the caisson from the ground, the cable pulled loose and the boom whiplashed right back over the carrier. The boom tore down electric lines and the end of the boom fell 4' short of a house. Fortunately no one was injured.
